Growing Up Strong and Healthy


Childhood….undoubtedly the best time of one’s life because we can never be as carefree and innocent like this time. A healthy child is the key to a healthy family. Children can mend and renew even the most complicated relationships. Their presence can light up any situation and keep tension away. Since children can do such wonders to us with their presence, it is our responsibility to keep our children healthy and fit and give them proper care.

Child health has been an issue on national concern especially children in lower income countries. Mott of the children in these countries are malnourished and do not have access to basic needs. While in developed countries children suffer from obesity due to excessive consumption of junk food like pizzas, french fries, burgers and soft drinks. These foods are easily available and appears to be very appealing in taste to them . Added to it is the modern sedentary lifestyle that make it all worse. Children these days prefer to spent their time either watching television or playing games on a computer. These technologies have reduced the rate of physical activity which is required to stay fit. Studies proved that the kids who ate fast food were more likely to consume a higher amount of calories, fat, carbohydrates and added sugars in one fast food meal. They were also less likely to consume as much fiber, milk and fruits and vegetables as children who did not eat fast food. This leads to serious health issues at a very early age.Health experts blame junk food for rising rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke. Children who consume more junk food are likely to fall ill much earlier than those who do not.

Thus to keep our children healthy we must keep a thorough watch on their diet and other activities too. Children should be encouraged for regular yoga and exercises at an early age. Parents should encourage children to take part in sports. Ready to eat foods and junk food must be avoided as much as possible, homemade foods are nutritious and extremely important for children in their growing years. Proper nutrition will give them proper immunity to fight back diseases. Green leafy vegetables, dairy products much be a part of their regular diet. As a parent, you can take small initiatives that can make sure to provide a good health for your children like taking stairs instead of elevator, walking instead of hiring an auto rickshaw and most importantly teaching them what is good and what is not.

  1. Such a beautiful writeup! I would definitely like to follow these things when I become a mom. I liked specially you had pointed out parents to encourage their children to take part in physical activities. I remember when we were young we used to play around our building with other children or used to go to dance class etc. I dont see any of my relatives taking initiative to let their children join any physical activity, its only computer and mobile games for them.
